Course Description:

Watercolor was practically made for landscapes. Its natural fluidity allows for seamless gradients, atmospheric washes, and sharp, textured strokes with a dry brush — all the essential tools for crafting dynamic and expressive scenes. But how do you go beyond simple washes and truly capture the depth and emotion of a landscape?

This course dives into the secrets of constructing a compelling landscape — from understanding spatial depth and layering to mastering color mixing for mood and atmosphere. You’ll learn how to guide the viewer’s eye through a composition, create a sense of scale, and use light and color to breathe life into your scene.

Beyond the basics, this course is packed with unique techniques and personal insights gathered through years of hands-on practice. Expect insider tips, creative approaches, and time-tested methods that will elevate your watercolor landscapes to a professional level.

Over 8 weeks of immersive learning, you’ll gain the skills to paint everything from flowing seas to towering mountains — and everything in between — while developing your own artistic voice.

Testimonials

Stuart Mono

Surprised at how much I enjoyed it and how different it was from pre-recorded tutorials. I've done many tutorials and this was an entirely different and much more impactful experience.

Michael was very accessible and open. Being an accomplished artist is one thing, but being able to communicate and teach as well is a rare thing. I liked it so much that I signed up for two more classes. I never thought I would be so looking forward to next November!

This course is amazing. Michael is not only a world class artist but also a very skilled teacher. He is very approachable and patient and happy to answer any question. The course offers insights into a variety of both landscapes and seascapes. It is educational and also very enjoyable. Michael’s critiques each session are such valuable learning experiences. I have already signed up for the new online courses being offered later this year.

Terri Kamm

I liked the weekly pace with homework and the classroom WhatsApp. First, we painted together in class, and then we did our homework on our own with a similar reference. It gave me time to try the techniques myself and ask questions to clarify.

Michael is a great teacher! With the weekly format he had time to tell the reason behind his process, not just how to do it. It was especially helpful to hear his feedback for each person's homework, to help clarify my understanding of why things work or didn't work.

Patrick

An inspiring teacher who doesn’t just explain technique, but helps you truly feel the medium and believe in yourself. After the courses, I understand much better what I’m doing and why, and I feel far more confident overall.
