Course Description:

Master the art of sketching — the foundation of every great drawing and painting. This course will develop your ability to see, analyze, and capture a subject quickly and confidently, without getting lost in unnecessary details. You’ll learn constructive drawing, proportions, scale, and how to simplify complex objects into clear forms.

We’ll explore sketching with pencil, ink, watercolor, and mixed media, learning how different materials and papers affect the process. About 70% of the course will focus on watercolor sketching and quick studies, with special attention to expressive line, movement, and the relationship between drawing and watercolor.

Composition is an essential part of the program. You’ll learn to use negative space, diagonals, changes of scale, focal points, and visual hierarchy to create strong and dynamic sketches. Instead of simply copying a reference, you’ll learn to identify what matters and capture it with a minimum of lines and brushstrokes.

Through quick exercises, urban sketches, and watercolor studies, you’ll develop greater speed, confidence, and freedom. The goal is not simply to sketch faster, but to think faster as an artist — capturing the essential and transforming observation into your own visual interpretation.
